Millions of children today suffer from child abuse. Child abuse is the physical, sexual or emotional maltreatment or neglect of a child or children. Physical abuse involves physical aggression directed at a child by an adult. Child abuse is more than bruises and broken bones. While physical abuse might be the most visible, other types of abuse, such as emotional abuse and neglect, also leave deep, lasting scars.
Matt Knight was mowing the lawn at his home when he heard the trapped child screaming. He was shocked to see a little girl ‘tied’ to a fence with a bungee cord around her neck. Before he called police, he took a picture of the disturbing scene.
Matt said: “I walked over there and the kid, like the photo you saw, was strapped or caught up in some of the bungee strap to the fence.
“I just wanted some photo evidence versus a bunch of hearsay.
“That strap or bungee cord was pretty much at neck level – she was up on her feet, but she was kind of struggling around her neck.”
A woman claiming to be the child’s mother said she was just tangled up in the cords—but would not say why the youngster was out of the house alone.
According to the station, police have been called to the property twice before in the previous month when children were left unattended in the street.
